In honor of October's Filipino American History Month, join us for Arts & Crafts on the Porch to learn to make Parols, a Filipino Christmas lantern. This free event is available on a drop-in basis. Children under 8 years of age may need parental help. Arts & Crafts at the Baranov Museum is supported by a grant from the Kodiak Community Foundation.

Join us Saturday, October 22nd at 10:30am for a reading of Berry Magic by Teri Sloat and Betty Huffmon. We'll talk about berry picking and dolls and have a snack.  Bring a stuffed animal friend too. For children ages 3-6 and their parents. Thank you to the USCG Spouses’ Association of Kodiak for their support of this programming.

Join us for an update on the our year! Meet the staff and board members who work to collect, preserve and share Kodiak's history and celebrate the accomplishments your support makes possible! We'll have a short business meeting at 12:30pm, behind-the-scenes tours at 1:30pm and 2:30pm, view the films for this year's film intensive on Kodiak's fishing industry and we'll be making applesauce on the porch from last year's apples.

Father Christmas at the Baranov Museum

Father Christmas will be visiting the Baranov Museum to take photos with all the Kodiak kids! Stop by between 10am and 12pm and bring your camera for a free photo. We will also have a free kids craft, free admission and holiday discounts in the Museum Store.

On Saturday, December 10th from 10:30-11:00am, come celebrate the holidays with a story! Hanukkah Bear and Merry Christmas Merry Crow will be December's featured stories on the porch at the Baranov Museum. Geared for children ages 3-6 and their parents, and all are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to share the story! The free event is sponsored in part by the US Coast Guards Spouses' Association of Kodiak.

Paper Mask Making for New Years

  In honor of Russian New Year's and the traditional masquerade ball, we will decorate paper masks on the porch for January's Arts & Crafts event. Held January 7th from 11:30-2:30, the first Saturday of the month, as Russian New Year's Eve is January 13th.  Signups are encouraged for this free event so we have enough supplies, and participants are encouraged to bring along additional items such as feathers to adorn their creations.
