Applications Available for the 2017 Summer Film Intensive

Applications are now being taken for our 2017 summer Film Intensive. You may download the  Film Intensive Application 2017, or stop by the museum and get one.  This rigorous 2-week course, a collaboration between the Baranov Museum and AKTeach, will give middle and high school students the opportunity to create documentary films about how they and their family came to Kodiak, whether they have been here for thousands of years or a few months. History Speaks! Russian Woodenware with Jim Dillard

Russian Woodenware is a vital cottage industry in the old world, and a necessary skill in Russian America. Wood carver and enthusiast, Jim Dillard, will provide an overview and demonstrate this skill at the first lecture in the History Speaks series. The program includes a number of rare photos and a live demonstration. An authentic door prize will be awarded at the end of the presentation.

Toby Sullivan, Director of the Kodiak Maritime Museum, will present an interesting talk on renowned master of the U.S. Revenue Cutter "Bear," Michael Healy. He was a highly talented and colorful mariner who ably represented the U.S. government from Southeast Alaska to the high Arctic.
