Stitch Gathering 1/5 @ The Brewery
October 27 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
The Kodiak Community Stitch Project aims to be a collaborative, slow craft, community art project that facilitates sharing stories and hand-work skills, celebrates individuality and fosters togetherness. There is a focus on working with Kodiak youth, but the overall goal is to collect as many hand embroidered self portraits as possible to represent our diverse island community in an exhibit opening in spring 2019.
Join us for our first community stitch gathering! Meet at Kodiak Island Brewery from 1pm-3pm. We hope to see you.
What are these meet-ups for?
-Getting everyone started! If you want to start on your project right away, bring an 8×10 photo copy of your head, neck and shoulders (or a “selfie”) to work from. An 8×10 fills the 10 inch embroidery hoops perfectly. We can show you an easy way to create a line drawing of your face that is ideal for stitching. Email your photo to firstname.lastname@example.org if you need one printed.
-Transferring your portraits onto your fabric of choice. We have the most beautiful linen and linen blends!
-Answering questions and chatting about the project. We’d love to hear what you think.
-Handing out supplies and kits to take home. We have everything you will need! Needles, floss, fabric, hoops, scissors, etc. Everything.
-Teaching embroidery basics and sharing stitching techniques. From threading needles to learning the split stitch, we got you.
-Use our tools. We will have light boxes for tracing, pencils, pens, carbon paper and tracing paper ready to go
