The archives encompass library and archival materials, including books, newspapers, oral histories, manuscripts, photographs, film and maps. The core of our archives is an outstanding collection of approximately 45,000 historic images. Glass slides, negatives and prints portray the people of southwest Alaska at work, at home, at sea and at leisure.

We are in the process of digitizing our archival collections in order to share them more widely with those interested in Kodiak’s history. Meanwhile, our archives can be accessed through making an appointment with the Archivist and visiting the Baranov Museum or by contacting the Archivist. If you are looking for a particular photograph or subject, please contact our Archivist at (907) 486-5909 or archives@baranovmuseum.org

If you are interested in obtaining a copy of archived material, looking for a particular photograph or have a question about Kodiak’s history, please see the following forms for information about our archival policy and fees.
